Creamy Tomato Soup and My Blueberry Nights

November 6, 2008

So, it has been a few days and I have been working, visiting my family for the first time since I moved out of town, eaten homemade springrolls and not-at-all-homemade tofu hot dogs with loads of mustard, and excercised too little.

I work at a cafĂ© which also serves a vegetarian lunch buffet, and sometimes we also caters. Today, there was a conference next door, so we made breakfast (sandwich), lunch (veggie lasagna) and after noon snack (coffee and buns) for 70 people, en excess of the ordinary work. And of course, no extra staff. So a lot of work and it was almost after noon when I ate my first anything for today. After a day like this it is so nice to come home and have leftovers from yesterdays blueberry pie, made from Novel Eat’s Apple Pie recipe (with blueberries instead of apples). Ever since I saw My Blueberry Nights (lovely movie by the way), I’ve had such a craving for blueberry pie.

Bean cooking time!

October 28, 2008

Since thuesday is my early day at work, I had prepared how to spend my afternoon. Three kinds of beens where soaked, black eyed peas, adzuki and mung beans, and just lay there in the old water just wating for me to come home and change water and boil them. This is not the kind of beans I use frequently, but I have a lot lying around in my pantry so I thought I should use them. So now when I have 15 small plastic bags full of beans in my freezer, I guess I just have to start thinking about great ways of using them. Any ideas? Well, first of all I will take my bike and ride to the local Asian grocery store to load up with some essentials.

A presentation, or something.

Yesterday evening, I sat in my to small sofa with the computer in my lap, with my stomach full of the best tomato soup I’ve ever had (the “creamy tomato soup” from Veganomicon). I was reading blogs about vegan food, adding them as bookmarks in my browser and the list kept getting longer and longer. My enthusiasm got bigger and bigger and finally my boyfriend asked me why I didn’t start my own blog. There were no good answer to that, and here I am. I don’t really know where this is gonna take me (or you!), but hopefully this enter in the world of vegan blogs will give both me and you something we missed before.
